Shock to the system: what's next for the NHS?

Wednesday 16 June 2021 | 12 pm (UK) | Webinar

As the COVID-19 fatality rate continues to fall, the true impact of the pandemic on our health and care system is becoming clear. Frontline workers and leaders have been nothing short of heroic over the last year, risking their lives to care for the spiralling numbers of patients, with many pivoting from their specialty areas to work on COVID wards. However, the NHS was already under significant pressure and the pause in some elements of care means the system now has a mountain to climb. Waiting lists in England are at over 10 million, cancer deaths are increasing, and cases of mental health are at their highest ever.

So what is the current picture for the NHS – and which services are under the most strain? How can providers and commissioners of mental health manage the increased need?

Gate One's Nick Kennell and Grace Blundell will be speaking to George Batchelor of Edge Health about what the data can tell us, and with Tracy Parr of Good Thinking (Healthy London Partnership) and Nina Shore of Mental Health Transformation (Healthy London Partnership), on their experiences of working in partnership with organisations across London on key mental health initiatives.
